Windows 7 installation problem
The installation process says that it needs a driver in order to continue. I knew that even during peak loads during the day, the raw throughput on the database server never exceeded mbps, let alone one gigabit. The problem was the use of RAID I suggested using independent sets of RAID1, which was hard for the team to swallow, and it took some time for me to convince them to try it. I probably could have done the conversion and alignment safely in-place if I had shrunk the file system inside the last logical partition of the extended partition with gparted first to make sure I moved all important data away from the second copy of the final resulting GPT after conversion, but the amount of time and work involved seemed a waste since I had done things wrong the first time already.
Also I have encrypted RAID partitions at the intel dg965wh raid of 4 of those drives and shrinking the filesystems to make room is a pain. Maybe I could have increased the extended partition size on the new larger drives first using gparted and then the conversion could happen safely. Dunno exactly how this works, does the second copy of the partition table go inside of, or after, the GPT partition? I think maybe the second copy goes after the GPT 'primary partition' so with data transferred to larger physical disk maybe it is OK to just convert to GPT in place? How does this work exactly?
I also want to give a special thanks to Eugene of StorageReview. I've been a longtime fan of StorageReview. As you can see, there is a computational cost to pushing gigabit throughput with parity calculations. The first intel dg965wh raid I got something, the other two I got something. I updated to the new IRST driver, rebooted, and ran the benchmark again. Ran the benchmark again. Home Questions Tags Intel dg965wh raid Unanswered.
